White Wolf

“OMG!!!!!!! My husband and I saw about a dozen of these totems in Santa Fe today….they are about the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen. We were going absolutely nuts over the white wolf and the arctic fox. INCREDIBLE!!!!!”  ~Irene S.
As well as protection, White Wolf symbolizes the perfect balance of Instinct and Intelligence. He or she has the cunning and steadfastness to outwit enemies who would wish them harm.

The New Dignity

It’s Christmas Eve and most of us are either making last minute preparations for tomorrow or we’re already in party mode. That doesn’t leave us much time for writing, especially if we’re having one of those days when our attention span is as long as a sand flea’s.

The only blog I actually follow is Stuart Wilde’s. When I’ve been down and blue in the past, his books have had the same effect on me as a visit from an old friend. I think it’s his warmth, humor, and unique view of reality, as well as his understanding of the Tao that really resonates with me.  I’m sharing a link here.  It’s about the heart of Gaia, and the magical Tao Beings…the animal spirits that will be your guides to the Eternal.  Perhaps in Stu’s Aluna World, he IS the White Rabbit. I think so!  OK, I’m off to wrap presents. Follow the rabbit down the hole…or not.Oh, I almost forgot. Merry Christmas!

“Kevin, I feel privileged that “the master” is creating an object specifically for me!”  ~William N.F.

I posted this Bush song for the simple reason that I like it! But what song should appear right behind it?  The Afterlife!  These coincidences are getting too weird.  Then again, some people just accept this stuff as fact. I heard tonight that Wayne Dyer believes he was St. Francis of Assisi in a past incarnation! Who am I to say? If someone told me I was Crazy Horse in a past life, I’m certain they would be at least half right.

Past Life

Again, the theme of ‘Past Life’ has mysteriously popped up into my day.  If you’ve read any of my previous posts over the past couple of months, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.  (See:  The Golden Ring).  I stumbled upon this five part documentary of children recalling past lives on YouTube. It’s not something I was searching out at all…but, there it was again!  Admittedly, there is an awful lot of crap on YouTube, but this is worth having a look at if reincarnation is something you’re interested in. I’ll just post the first installment here.

Balance

Burning the candle at both ends.

I’m losing it…balance, that is!  There’s a lot to be said for the singularity of truth, which is why I find cliches so amusing. “All work and no play…”  I put in a good 13 hours in the studio yesterday and subsequently dreamed of causing someone bodily harm last night.  Oops.  Apparently, ‘they’ are the people responsible for these cliches, for as they say, “No one’s perfect!”, right?  My shadow side has been pushing to the fore the past few days.  I had my help quit early today and I’m sure I was close to throwing them out bodily as well.  I tend to get a bit narky when I’m tired.  I’ve just now made myself a pot of coffee except that I didn’t put the actual pot under the filter. I hope my kitchen floor was thirsty!  It’s kind of difficult to chill out when clients want their ‘product’ ASAP, rush order, before Christmas, like yesterday, etc.  But as they say again, “This too shall pass” and “Every cloud has a silver lining.”

The silver lining bit: Inspiration is always lurking around the corner. This week I was ‘friend-ed’ on the ubiquitous Facebook by visionary artist Professor Philip Rubinov Jacobson.   There is a lot to read and see here, if you have a few moments to spare.

Equally inspiring is the work of the lovely Madeline Von Foerster who was a student of Jacobson’s.

The Golden Ring

It’s uncanny that at times we don’t see where our path is leading until looking behind us at the trail of idea crumbs we’ve been dropping absently along the way.  Going back over some of my blog posts, and the last three unrelated books I’ve read recently, I’m clearly sensing a recurring theme. This life. Past life. Future life. (Also the subject of the film ‘The Fountain’ mentioned in this post.)

I’ve already mentioned ‘The Tibetan Book Of Living And Dying’  in my last post  Fair Trade And The Bardo Of Becoming.

I’ve just started reading ‘Celtic Myths and Legends’ by Peter Bradford Ellis.  The ancient Celts believed that death in this world is only a change of place to the Otherworld. After traversing the Dark River, life would continue in this parallel world.  And when life ran out there again, one would be reborn into this world…on and on eternally. Much in the same way we go back and forth daily between our ‘waking’ life and our ‘dreaming’, a lifetime is a day.

Sure to be an international best seller already, promoted by the likes of Brendon Burchard,  Aleph by Paulo Coelho is a good read. The story is centered around the idea of finding redemption from the mistakes of past lives.  In his own experience, after reading a book about “discovering the mysteries of past lives”, Paulo uses a visualization technique that involves imagining a ‘Golden Ring’  around his body moving head to toe, back and forth with increasing speed until he is transported to a past incarnation. In the very last paragraph of his book, he warns us “against the use of the ring-of-light exercise. As I mentioned earlier, any return to the past with no knowledge of the process can have dramatic and disastrous consequences.”  Disastrous…talk about dangling the bait for the reckless. I’m definitely going to look into it.

An update: it’s almost two months since I posted this.  Coincidence?  I accidentally came upon this today…I wasn’t looking for it. If you’re interested in past lives, you’ll definitely want to have a look at this.  PAST LIFE

Fair Trade And The Bardo Of Becoming

There’s a first time for everything. This week I traded one of my pieces, Javelina Manitou, for one Schecter Diamond Series electric guitar….case included! What else? Today’s weather…absolutely perfect.  The changing leaves are spectacular as always this time of year. I have a Black Elk on it’s way to Baton Rouge tomorrow. A couple of months from now I’ll be wishing I had gone with it!

I’ve been reading “The Tibetan Book Of Living And Dying”. It’s all very interesting. I especially like the bit about the ‘Bardo of Becoming’ after death in which the astral bodies of those who have left us hang around for a while until their karma determines which way they will go.  In some cases, they are not aware they have died…a lot like the Bruce Willis character in ‘The Sixth Sense’ (I see dead people!)  This is usually the case when death comes suddenly and unexpectedly and often times violently. The Tibetans believe that not only will they hover around those left behind, perfectly aware of all the goings on…family members fighting over their worldly possessions and so on, but can also hear your innermost thoughts.  There is in fact a ghost that visits this house occasionally… a story for another time, perhaps.

Some may wander for ages in hell worlds which are really projections of their minds. Like dreamers who never become lucid, they remain stuck in a self created nightmare. Bad Karma.

According to the Tibetan Buddhists, those who have studied and practiced meditation will immediately recognize the way to go after death, and merge with the formless, while the ego identity which is merely a manifestation of greed, anger, ignorance and attachment, will dissolve into radiant light. The goal then being complete oblivion.

I have got to see this in person! Next year, maybe.

I don’t know about you, and maybe it’s a ‘Western’ thing, but I happen to like living…and yes, I’m rather attached to my sense of self.  I like the smell of dirt and grass.  I like physicality…the way the sun feels on my skin.  I love the sound of birds singing when I wake up in the morning.   I don’t mind a little pain. It sure beats the alternative.  From what I’ve read, when I get to the other side I’ll be searching for my next set of birth parents having intercourse and project my soul there!  Maybe, that’s exactly what I did last time around and I’ve only forgotten.

I’m really not all that interested in the Afterlife.  I’m still trying to figure this one out!

Wood Pile

Well, this is what my day looked like. Not a lot to say about it really, is there?  I had a log jump off the splitter and blast me in the knee, but I’m sure I’ll live. Nothing broken, though I may be hobbling slightly for a day or two.  Winter is on it’s way soon enough.

I’ve also posted a couple of pictures of the piece I was working on yesterday.

It’s new.  Mishi-bizheu, the Great White Lynx, is part sea serpent. Along with the Mermaids (Nebaunaubaequaewuk), he is said to be responsible for drawing people down to a  frigid watery grave at the bottom of Lake Superior. Not very pleasant, but I imagine there are worse ways to go. He is more or less America’s version of the Loch Ness Monster, but perhaps more dangerous.  If you are out on the water and a storm comes up unexpectedly, what you might mistake for a long line of white caps just may be Mishi-bizheu making a bee line for your craft.

I’ll be posting more pictures when he is finished.

Heart Felt

Hi Kevin,

A friend of mine recently discovered some of your work and shared a link with me because she knew I’d fall in love with your pieces… she was right! I just had to message you and tell you how truly breathtaking your creations are. Each piece is stunningly unique. It is quite apparent that you are a true master and create with your heart and a deep reverence for the spiritual realms. Artists like you truly take my breath away and put me in an awe inspired state. Thank you for making my day much more mystical… I look forward to following your work in the years to come. Keep on doing what you’re doing… you’re making the world a more beautiful place.
